Sudan Declares Stance on IGAD’s Upcoming Summit

The Sudanese government has received an invitation from IGAD to participate in its summit which will be held in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda on 18 January 2024 to discuss the issues of Somalia and Sudan.
The Sudanese government declared its following stance:

  1. Sudan was dealing positively towards all the initiatives, specially the efforts of IGAD to reach peace in Sidan., but the latter did not commit towards the implementation of the last summit held in Djibouti by organizing a meeting between the Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and the Commander of the RSF leader scheduled on 28 December 2023 claiming that the RSF commander will not be able to attend due to technical reasons while he was touring sever IGAD states at the same date.
Accordingly, the Sudanese government considers that there is no need for a summit to discuss Sudan’s issue before the implementation of the previous summit outcomes.
The government affirms that what is going in Sudan is an internal affair and that the response to the regional initiatives doesn’t mean ignoring the sovereign right in solving the crisis by the Sudanese themselves.
